| First companion in Hamilton NZ mission - Sister Sapoi |
Hello friends and family.
I made it to New Zealand and it has been awesome so far!
We ended up traveling for over 30 hours. It was a long few days, but the plane ride went well and we all made it safely.
When we got to the nz airport, no one was there to pick us up. Hahaha there was 7 of us sisters just standing in the middle of this huge airport with heaps of luggage, no working phone, and we had no idea where to go. It was quite a sight. Eventually a nice lady helped us out and the APs were there to pick us up.
We made it to the mission office and we met up with 9 other missionaries from the Auckland mtc. Then we met our president and all the staff. They are amazing. We had some orientation stuff and interviews and then we had dinner. Keep in mind that most of us hadnt showered in 48 hours so we looked and smelled nasty. I feel bad for whoever had to see me that day hahaha. We spent the night at a flat by the mission home and then got up and finally got to meet our trainers and find out our areas.
My trainer is sister sapoi and we are serving in manurew which is in south Auckland. Its about and hour and a half from the mission home and since my trainer is from Tonga and doesn't have a license, I am the driver and I had to drive from Hamilton to Auckland on my first day. Guys I am so blessed that we didn't die because they drive on the opposite side of the road here. I am happy to report that we are still alive and well and that I actually have been a pretty good and safe driver.
We are serving in a tongan ward and an English ward. Hopefully I can pick up some tongan because right now I cant understand anything. I am super pumped though because the work here is awesome and we have so much to do! We are getting ready for some baptisms already and I couldn't be more excited. I know God send me here for a reason because I am already learning so much. The spirit is so strong with these people and they have a huge love for the gospel.
I hope you are all having a wonderful christmas season and enjoying the snow. Remember to tell your families you love them and really enjoy your time together in the next few weeks. I love my family and I am so happy we get to be together forever because of the sacrifice of jesus christ. I love this gospel so much and I am so proud to be a missionary. - sister beck-
